CATHOLIC MARRIAGE PREPARATION
IN ENGLAND AND WALES
A national Working Party was convened in November 2013 to respond to the strategic recommendations for the bishops of England and Wales contained in two reports on Catholic marriage preparation which were published in November 2012. The reports arose from a survey of marriage preparation in England and Wales conducted in 2010 and a consultation with participants in a CBCEW-hosted marriage preparation providers’ conference in 2011. The Project Office's support for the Working Party is led by the Marriage and Family Catechesis Development Worker. The strategic recommendations include:
- extending the provision of marriage preparation, particularly by training more providers,
- developing systems to provide continuing professional development and supervision to providers, and
- developing a framework to assist diocesan work on marriage preparation.
