They are setting out, like Abraham, on a journey together. And that is what marriage is! Setting out and walking together, hand in hand, putting yourselves in the Lord’s powerful hands. Hand in hand, always and for the rest of your lives.

A number of dioceses host annual celebration Masses for marriage as well as programmes, retreats, peer-based support and Scriptural resources for couples which help them explore their vocation to marriage and further develop their marital spirituality. Some also offer healing opportunities for troubled marriages. These programmes include:
Couple Alive
Verbum Dei
The Church's support for marriage also includes counselling and domestic abuse awareness. Marriage Care offers counselling to couples to help them work through whatever difficulty is proving difficult for them to resolve on their own. Catholics Experiencing Domestic Abuse Resources (CEDAR) points to the compassionate response needed from the Church by victims of domestic abuse, including awareness that couple counselling in these cases is not at all recommended.
