A registered charity incorporated on 15 April 2003, the Catholic Trust for England and Wales (CaTEW) is the legal entity for the Catholic Bishops’ Conference of England and Wales (CBCEW). It supports the legal, financial and charitable activities of the Bishops’ Conference, its departments, agencies and offices. The Marriage and Family Life Project Office is an office of the Department of Christian Responsibility and Citizenship which assists the bishops in promoting Catholic social action. The Department promotes marriage and family life, offers support for vulnerable and marginalised people and works to uphold the dignity of human life from conception to natural death. Areas of work include: Safeguarding, healthcare, marriage and family, mental health, pastoral support of travellers, prison ministry, racial justice, internships and bioethics. The Chair of the department is Archbishop Peter Smith of Southwark.
